New year, new homes for ten families in Alt

19/01/2023

The new year means new homes for ten families picking up the keys for properties at our Cherry Avenue development in the Alt neighbourhood.

The seven three-bedroom and three two-bedroom houses on Pear Tree View are the first to be completed at the 38-home scheme, which we are delivering with north-west based development partner, Tyson Construction.

Twenty-eight three-bedroom and ten two-bedroom much-needed houses are due for completion in spring this year, along with improvements to the surrounding area to benefit local people.

Helping customers save energy and keep costs down, the homes have been fitted them with increased ground floor insulation, increased loft insulation and triple glazing among other measures to make them energy efficient and economical to run.

The £6.1m development is transforming a long-term vacant plot of land in the neighbourhood and is part of our ambitious development strategy to deliver 1,100 new, sustainable, high-quality properties in Oldham and surrounding areas by 2026 to help meet increasing demand across the region. We have received £1.5m grant funding from Homes England for the build.

All homes at the Cherry Ave development are for affordable rent set at no more than 80% of the average local market rent. Properties are being allocated to people on Oldham Council’s housing register and will be managed by us.

Joel Owen, our Director of Development said: “Customers are at the heart of what we do, and I’m thrilled that these ten families can start 2023 in their new homes. Also special is that these are the first residents to move into Pear Tree View - the winning entry in our street naming competition which ran early in the development programme.

“We’re committed to building great homes that meet housing need, and demand for affordable housing locally far outstrips supply. We’re working hard to address this and these new properties in Alt put us another step closer to achieving the targets in our development strategy and helping us improve the lives of more people.

“I wish our ten families all the best in their new homes and look forward to the upcoming completions.”
