Environmental day in Holts Village is a success!

The snow was no match for our teams up in Holts recently.
Birch Hall Close and Crowhill View were chosen as the locations for our second environmental day held on 29 November 2021.
The session was designed to help tidy up the streets, which are known to be fly tipping hotspots, educate customers on the issues that fly tipping causes, help increase recycling rates in the area and understand attitudes to disposing of waste.
Oldham Council colleagues joined us to talk to locals about recycling, reporting pests and problems caused by putting the waste in the wrong wheelie bins – all of which impact on the neighbourhood.
The findings from the session will help shape our approach to tackling fly tipping going forward.
David Wrigley, our Head of Neighbourhood Care said: “We put on this tidy up day to not only give customers the opportunity to get rid of bulky waste like mattresses, furniture and other household items but get their views on fly tipping and waste too. The cold weather did impact the number of customers who got involved, but still our dedicated teams managed to clear an awful lot of items that otherwise would be cluttering customers’ homes and the local area. Responses to the survey carried out on the day will help influence how we deliver our services in the future."
Environmental days like this are one of the initiatives we are piloting at the moment to help reduce the amount of rubbish dumped in neighbourhoods across Oldham and supports Oldham Council’s Don’t Trash Oldham campaign.
