New affordable homes for rent coming to Heywood

We are pleased to announce that we have signed a £1.5m deal to secure six new homes in Heywood, helping to increase the amount of affordable housing in the area.
We are working with Greater Manchester developer, House Crowd Developments to deliver six four-bedroom homes for affordable rent at The Spindles development on Victoria Street.
The homes are transforming the former office building site into a quality, modern housing scheme and are part of our ambitious plans to build 700 new homes across Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Kirklees and Calderdale between now and 2026 to meet growing housing need.
Construction at The Spindles site is currently underway and FCHO-owned homes will be handed over to customers in June and July this year. Properties will be let in conjunction with Rochdale Borough Council.
Our Director of Development, Joel Owen said: “Locally there’s a shortage of affordable housing and we’re working with our partners to address this – not only delivering more homes but making sure they are energy efficient, high quality and meet customers’ needs now and in the future. We’re delighted to be in contract on this scheme that will help us make a difference to local people.”
The Spindles is the second development that we have partnered with House Crowd Developments on in the past six months. In Lees in Oldham, we increased our stock of affordable homes by buying 17 new three-bedroom homes ‘off the shelf’ from the developer.
In the year 2020/21 we invested more than £20m and delivered 84 new build homes across Oldham and Rochdale in partnership with housebuilders and developers. This year we are increasing the pace and volume at which we deliver new housing and plans are underway to commence with 259 homes in 2022/23.
