Putting safety first: we've signed the Building a Safer Future Charter

13/12/2021

Keeping customers and colleagues safe is our priority, and this week we've become a registered signatory of the Building a Safer Future Charter.

This strengthens our commitment to putting people’s safety first in how we plan for, design, build, maintain, and look after the safety of our homes.

The Building a Safer Future Charter has been developed in response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Building a Safer Future Review in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. It aims to create positive change in the sector’s approach to building safety.

We recognise that becoming a Registered Signatory is an important first step towards achieving the culture and behavioural change required in relation to the Charter's objectives around building safety. In confirming our support as a Registered Signatory, we will now be working to ensure that we embed the principles of the Charter into our organisation’s activities.

Steve Mather, Director of Operations - Assets said: "The safety of customers and colleagues is paramount to us. Signing the charter gives us an effective system to benchmark our building safety work against and independent third party verification to reassure those who live and work in our high rise buildings about how they were built and how they are managed. Signing up to the charter also means we have become part of a community from which we can continue to learn about best practice in the field, so we can provide high quality, safe places to live now and in the future."

As a signatory of the Building a Safer Future we join housing associations and other organisations pledging to help make sure that buildings are safe for those who live and work in them.
