Richmond Academy pupils make their mark at West Vale

Artwork by Richmond Academy pupils will soon brighten up hoardings around the West Vale building site - thanks to a joint project with Gallery Oldham.

Striking collages which celebrate the history of the Coldhurst neighbourhood and Oldham's industrial past were created at a session held in May.

Forty one pupils visited Gallery Oldham in the town centre to learn about Summervale Mill, where the tower blocks went on to be built, and Oldham's cotton spinning history. They then got to work on their artistic creations.

Danny Isherwood, FCHO Project and Partnership Officer said: "Community is at the heart of the West Vale development and we're thrilled to have worked with students from Richmond Academy and Gallery Oldham to design the West Vale site's hoarding.

"We can't wait to see the artwork come to life very soon and look forward to bringing the school and local community along on our journey at West Vale."
