We're bringing nine new one-bedroom apartments to Chadderton

We're bringing nine new one-bedroom apartments for affordable rent to Chadderton, to help meet local housing need and create homes which are fit for the future.

Our plans to demolish the existing building on the site (pictured below) and bring forward the new development off Burnley Lane were approved by Oldham Council’s planning authority on 15 November 2021.

Helping to provide low carbon homes which are economical for households to run, the apartments are planned to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) B, and heating and hot water will be generated by electricity. Each home will have cycle storage, to encourage use of sustainable transport, and the block will retain a landscaped, rear private garden for residents’ use.

We consulted with local residents on proposals for the development in May 2021. Feedback gathered was generally very supportive and influenced our plans. Comments received included:

“Genuinly [sic] never seem to be able to see one bedroom homes to apply for, and since it's in the area I'd welcome it.”

“Please make sure there is safe cycle storage for each resident.”

The £1m development will be built by our development partner, Tameside-based, John Southworth Builders.

Work is set to begin on site in December 2021 and is due for completion in December 2022.

Burnley Lane is our latest scheme in the Oldham borough this year. We have created 115 new homes in Oldham and Rochdale since April 2021, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four bedroom family homes, all for affordable rent.
