We've completed 16 new, green affordable homes in Royton
30/09/2022
Customers moving into our latest new apartments are set to benefit from high quality, modern, eco-friendly homes which are economical to run.
Our High Barn Phase Two development of sixteen one-bedroom apartments on Edge Lane St, Royton was completed earlier this month and customers are now settling into their new homes.
Each property at the £1.7m energy efficient scheme has achieved Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) B and is equipped with a modern electrical heating system to help customers keep energy bills down and reduce their carbon footprint.
All homes are for affordable rent – set at no more than 80% of the average local market rent. They have been allocated to people on Oldham Council’s housing register and are being managed by us.
The High Barn Phase Two development – which received £608k grant funding from Homes England – was delivered by North West based Robwood Construction. The firm completed eleven one and two-bedrooms at our High Barn Phase One build in January 2021.
Both developments are part of our strategy to deliver 700 new, high quality, energy efficient properties in Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside, Kirklees, and Calderdale between now and 2026 to help meet housing need and improve the lives of local people.
Joel Owen, our Director of Development said: “As is the case in many other parts of the country, demand for social housing in Oldham and surrounding areas significantly outstrips supply and we’re building as many new homes as we can to help meet local need, and making sure they are energy efficient, economical to run and fit for the future.
“This scheme we’ve delivered with Robwood Construction is a good example of how partnership working can help us build more great homes we are proud of, improve lives and contribute to making Oldham a cleaner, greener borough.”
We have now delivered 47 new homes for affordable rent in Royton in the past two years, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom family houses. Our £3.7m Shaw St development, which is also being delivered by Robwood Construction, started on site in the summer and is due for completion in winter 2023.
We are due to complete 109 new affordable homes across a range of tenures in this financial year. Work is currently underway on 181 properties at 12 development sites and we are on track to commence with a further 259 homes by April 2023.
